Unconditional Love
Series
Matthew 6:25 “Do not worry about your
life.”
Find Meaning in Every
Moment
It is very easy for our lives to be unbelievably
complex.
The other day I met a young woman walking towards the
parking lot from a church activity. I could tell from her face that
she was tired. She appeared to be stressed out. So I said to
her, “How are you today?” She said, “My job is really hard,
Chip. My kids are involved in far too many activities. I try to make
everything perfect for my husband and my home and it’s just impossible. I
look at the calendar and every weekend is packed. I wonder how I’m going
to have time to go to the grocery store and keep the clothes clean.”
I asked her if I could pray for her.
The next day I prayed intermittently
throughout the day for this young woman and her family. I know she
is not alone and probably all of us have felt exactly as she did. It is
easy when someone else tells you those things to dismiss them and not really
consider them as real problems. As I prayed for her the Lord spoke a
word for me to convey. The next day when I saw her again at church,
I called her name and said, “I believe the Lord has a word for you.” She
smiled and said, “What does the Lord want to say to me today?” And I said,
“I believe after prayer, He wants you to find meaning in every moment. I
believe that your life is going to be complex and what you are supposed to do is
just find meaning in the moments and hours of your life.”
Jesus said much about worrying. He
instructed us simply in Matthew 6:25 “Do not worry about your life.” He
points out the birds of the air who don’t harvest or store away their food and
yet their Father feeds them. And then asks, “Are you not more valuable
than the birds to God?” And then he says, “Don’t worry about your
clothes. And then he said, “Look at the lilies of the field how beautiful
they are.” And God gives them to us. And then Jesus says as he
teaches these lines in 6:33, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,
all these things will be given to you as well.” Finally, he says,
“Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will have enough worries of
its own.”
Of course, we have all heard those words many times but
for over 2,000 years, God has been guiding us not to worry. And the
things that cause us so many cares should not rob us of the joy of today.
I think God wants to say to many of us “enjoy every minute of your life because
when we worry we rob our days of happiness.”
Prayer:
Dear God, help me to find meaning in life. Amen.
